Psychedelic supergroup Nusantara Beat are the latest Dutch band take the genre in bold new directions. Boasting members from Jungle By Night, POM, The Mysterons, Altın Gün, Surf Aid-Kit and EUT's outstanding front woman Megan de Klerk, their shared Indonesian roots are the basis of the outfit, which is inspired by 1970s South East Asian psych-folk. As the name implies, rhythm takes centre stage here – traditional percussion meets a Moog synthesiser and spiralling riffs, the tripped-out beats conjuring an aura of hazy sunshine and hallucinogenic visions.
