An uncanniness haunts Dis Fig’s productions. Styled around her distinctive vocals, her music spools like brackish water, opaque, murky and mesmerising. Since moving to Berlin, the US-born musician has been a favourite on the underground circuit, garnering attention from bass aficionado The Bug, which lead to the pair collaborating for In Blue. Released by Hyperdub records in 2020, the album is a foggy, melancholic meltdown of narco-dancehall, zoned soul and dread-inducing, electronic dub. More recently, Dis Fig has returned to the experimental noise onslaughts that characterised her early sound, joining forces with the Indian producer Ruhail Qaisar for the track 'Painter Man', a drone-drenched, 6-minute odyssey into the abyss.
