Cult '70s outfit Cymande (pronounced "sah-mahn-day") was one of the first bands to merge African rhythms with rock, funk, reggae and soul. Deriving their name from a calypso word for “dove”, a symbol of peace and love, Cymande’s sound is subtle but sinewy, full of thoughtful, literate grooves to inspire spirited dancing. Having taken an almost-four-decade hiatus, during which time their recordings were abundantly sampled by rappers and DJs, the band made a triumphant return in 2015 with the celebrated album A Simple Act of Faith.
