Crystallmess is spearheading a new generation of Parisian artists who are doing things their own, non-conforming way. Both a DJ/producer and multidisciplinary artist, the diverse disciplines of Christelle Oyiri are in constant dialogue with each other, blurring the boundary between rave culture and art/music that would be considered (too) avant-garde or offbeat in the past. When she steps into the booth, Oyiri’s eclectic approach to the art of DJing is influenced by the diasporic nature of club music, and cannot be confined by any genre marker. Much like their monthly ‘Unleashed’ show on NTS and releases on forward labels such as PAN, a Crystallmess set will have you barreling through jungle, techno, kuduro, afro-rhythms, pop and footwork in a matter of moments.
