Mulatu Astatke

Mulatu Astatke

AUG 2 / Amsterdamse Bos

Widely recognised as one of the defining African musicians of the 20th century, Mulatu Astatke lays claim to being the father of Ethio-jazz. His international stock soared after his rich, vibraphone-led music appeared on the popular "Ethiopiques" compilations in the 1990s, and has since been bolstered through collaborative tours with whirlwind ensemble The Heliocentrics. Venerated from Harvard University to the halls of Berghain, where he performed last year, we’re proud to host this jazz great at just 75 years young.
