Diving into the 2017 Line-up
Welcome to Dekmantel Festival 2017. During the fifth edition of our home town festival, we are hoping to surprise you. Take a close look at our line-up and timetable, and notice that we’ve altered our course a bit.
On Wednesday, we’ll kick things off with a concert by an artist that has paved the way for the art form we deeply love. We feel honored to have minimal music pioneer Steve Reich playing at Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ, a concert hall for contemporary classical music.
On Thursday, we’ll serve up a dazzling display of live music that reaches all across the musical spectrum. Both legends and modern virtuosos will be sharing stages shattered across five different venues along the IJ river, a stones throw away from Amsterdam’s city center.
Throughout the years, we’ve been inspired by artists that can bring that special spark to a stage. Musicians that rely on their craftsmanship no matter how small or big the crowd, or what time of day it is. We believe that our mainstage should be a display of unchampioned artisans, albeit exceptional DJs or compelling live-acts. We also believe that this utter talent can handle a festival field of proportion. That it’s exhilarating to have them host the grand finale. We proudly present you our mainstage paladins.
The lush surroundings of our Greenhouse offer a broad range of different genres and artists, with each day focusing on a specific corner of the music spectrum. Expect esoteric techno from familiar faces and promising newcomers. Check out live performances by beat wunderkinds and producers that changed the electronic hip-hop game. Listen to machine funk from Detroit, legends from Düsseldorf and acid from The Hague – or simply pick your own, exciting favorite.
We are not going to beat around the bush here, because by now you know what you can expect at our seasoned UFO stage: up-tempo yet sophisticated, dark and heavy music. The trusted recipe is altered slightly by balancing the division between DJs and live acts, but once again we will bring you the best there is in experimental and futuristic techno, noise and electro.
The Selectors stage offers a fairly basic concept, scheduling a maximum of five artists on each day. But zoom in on the running order and you will see that we are trying to pull a few class-A DJs out of their comfort zones. This is the stage where exceptional DJs can go all across the board, mixing up different genres. In an intimate setting you can get hyper over marathon sets and unexplored musical spectrums.
