On Wednesday, we’ll kick things off with a concert by an artist that has paved the way for the art form we deeply love. We feel honored to have minimal music pioneer Steve Reich playing at Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ, a concert hall for contemporary classical music.
On Thursday, we’ll serve up a dazzling display of live music that reaches all across the musical spectrum. Both legends and modern virtuosos will be sharing stages shattered across five different venues along the IJ river, a stones throw away from Amsterdam’s city center.
Throughout the years, we’ve been inspired by artists that can bring that special spark to a stage. Musicians that rely on their craftsmanship no matter how small or big the crowd, or what time of day it is. We believe that our mainstage should be a display of unchampioned artisans, albeit exceptional DJs or compelling live-acts. We also believe that this utter talent can handle a festival field of proportion. That it’s exhilarating to have them host the grand finale. We proudly present you our mainstage paladins.
The lush surroundings of our Greenhouse offer a broad range of different genres and artists, with each day focusing on a specific corner of the music spectrum. Expect esoteric techno from familiar faces and promising newcomers. Check out live performances by beat wunderkinds and producers that changed the electronic hip-hop game. Listen to machine funk from Detroit, legends from Düsseldorf and acid from The Hague – or simply pick your own, exciting favorite.
We are not going to beat around the bush here, because by now you know what you can expect at our seasoned UFO stage: up-tempo yet sophisticated, dark and heavy music. The trusted recipe is altered slightly by balancing the division between DJs and live acts, but once again we will bring you the best there is in experimental and futuristic techno, noise and electro.
The Selectors stage offers a fairly basic concept, scheduling a maximum of five artists on each day. But zoom in on the running order and you will see that we are trying to pull a few class-A DJs out of their comfort zones. This is the stage where exceptional DJs can go all across the board, mixing up different genres. In an intimate setting you can get hyper over marathon sets and unexplored musical spectrums.
Over the past couple of years, we collaborated and worked hand-in-hand with the UK imprint Boiler Room for the stage that hids in between the breathtaking trees of the Amsterdamse Bos. This year, the stage welcomes many artists from the festival's line-up, but also sees a new batch of talents stepping up before the camera actually starts rolling. Starting in the late afternoon, you can find everything in between wave and electro, afrobeat and disco, and house and world rarties at this intimate spot.
Red Light Radio
Again, we've invited Dutch initiative and good friends from Red Light Radio to collaborate for a 3-day radio broadcast in the ever stunning surroundings of the Amsterdamse Bos. Get ready for your favourite legends and local talents from all over the world.
Dekmantel At Night: Shelter
One of Amsterdam’s newest clubs is Shelter, located on the North-side of the IJ river. The club opened its door in early October 2016, and found a home in the basement of the A’DAM tower. Whilst offering a wide spectrum of electronic music, we’re happy to collaborate with this exciting initiative during Dekmantel Festival’s Thursday and the Dekmantel after hours through hosting several concerts at this promising spot.
Dekmantel At Night: Radion
Located in Amsterdam Nieuw-West is RADION; a cultural platform and club based in a former dentist building. The industrial looking club caters two rooms: one main room downstairs and an intimate diagonal dance floor upstairs. RADION is the home for many creatives and nocturnal animals that get together in the unique hub to find out about new expositions or to dance to everything in between electronic and world music. We’re happy to join forces for this year’s after hours program on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
