DJ Sprinkles

The deep house-orientated persona of Terre Thaemlitz, DJ Sprinkles' exquisite sonic palette was forged in the vibrancy of pre-gentrified, 1980s New York. Performing at Sally's II, a refuge for trans sex workers, she saw first-hand how clubbing stemmed from a place of frustration and struggle. Beyond the throb of the dancefloor, the venue was a site of education – a politically charged space of difference. She's channelled precisely this ethos throughout a three-decade-long career. As a writer, multi-media producer, public speaker, educator, audio remixer, DJ and owner of the Comatonse Recordings record label, Thaemlitz has tackled complex issues — queer identity, race and class — through the lens of club music. Overflowing with obscure releases, her sets are scholastic exercises – listen, and you might just learn something.
